About this calibration

  • Method

    Your instrument measures known values from a reference calibrator — voltage, current, resistance or frequency — at several points on each range and function you use. Instruments that produce an output, such as insulation testers, signal generators and power supplies, also have their output measured. Your quotation states the ranges and points.

  • How often

    Commonly every 12 months, or sooner for testers used in electrical safety checks and after a meter is dropped or overloaded. Your quality system or safety procedure sets the interval.

  • Your certificate

    Records the reading against the reference at each point, the error and the measurement uncertainty, for each range and function tested.
